Rice University’s “Capstone: Build a Winning Investment Portfolio” is offered by Coursera. It is the last part of the larger 5-course Investment and Portfolio Management Specialization, still by Rice University. This section is meant to test all the knowledge and skills you have gained thus far, as well as provide you with a hands-on feel of actual portfolio evaluation and management.
The course lasts 5 weeks, but a sixth week is included for grading purposes. It is composed of 5 modules in total, with 1 module being tackled in a single week. Each module involves a combination of video lessons, readings, and practice quizzes. The first four are essentially projects and exercises, while the first one is an evaluation of your simulated portfolio. The aforementioned sixth week is for peer grading of all submitted final reports covering all 5 modules of the Sim Portfolio activities.
Among the skills and capabilities that will be tested in this course are asset allocation and its strategies, tactical portfolio shifts, behavioral finance, and investing styles. At the end of each week, you will need to accomplish particular graded requirements—without which you will not pass the course.
As this is a capstone project, you will need to have finished the first four parts of the specialization to even be allowed to enroll.
